“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people to collect wood, and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.”
- Antoine de Saint-Exupery
As fundraisers it’s essential that we reach our supporters with the connection and satisfaction of being truly a part of our missions.
It’s easy to get caught up in the statistics and the list of accomplishments and the strategic goals for the coming year. But what we really want to share with our donors is the immense gratification of knowing they are making real change happen…the deep meaning of seeing lives transformed through our efforts…the joy in feeling a part of something important in this world.
Your organization’s ship builders already “long for the immensity of the sea…” They give to your organization to feel their relevance, to know they are making a difference, to share in your transformative work. So when you communicate with them, make sure you are reaching out to them at that deep, emotional level—and they will gladly help pilot your ship out to sea.
